What your bank’s alert says for each UPI app

Whichever app you pay with, the money leaves your bank account, so the bank’s alert is what records it. The payee is usually the UPI name or ID of whoever you paid.

Payments to people, and fixing a category

A payment to a person’s name is never guessed at: it waits in Needs review the first time, and Spendly asks who they are (family, friend, rent…). Choose once and later payments to the same name are filed the same way. Any category can be changed later; Spendly remembers the change for that payee.

What Spendly cannot see

  • Payments your bank sends no alert for — check your alert settings.
  • Each small UPI Lite payment (only the top-up appears in your bank).
  • Cash: log it in two taps, or move an ATM withdrawal into a Cash account.
  • Banks outside the supported list — see the 30 supported banks.

Questions

Can I track UPI payments from GPay, PhonePe and Paytm in one place?

Yes. Every UPI payment debits your bank account, and your bank sends an alert for it. Spendly reads those alerts, so it does not matter which UPI app you used.

Does Spendly need my UPI PIN or bank login?

No. It never asks for a PIN, password or netbanking login. Gmail access is read-only and limited to bank alert emails.

What if a payment is put in the wrong category?

Change it once — Spendly remembers your choice for that payee from then on.

Is automatic tracking free?

Tracking by hand is free forever. Reading bank emails and SMS automatically is part of Spendly Premium.
